Neil Young concert at Ambleside Park - September 12, 2009

May I ask you a question?

Have you ever been to a music concert on a boat?

Last September 12, 2009 one of my favorite artists of all time was here on the shores of West Vancouver. Neil Young!

He and Sheryl Crow were playing at Sarah McLachlan gig for charity.

I knew months advance he was coming and told most of my friends and family that they could come on the boat to the concert.

The Saturday morning of the concert - like I usually do- I sent a group text message to everyone.

I only received one "yes" reply out of around thirty. And that was from my buddy Sean.

Huh, usually I'm really cool - and get more than capacity of responses and my boat fills up fast. Oh well.

Tuns out a couple of girls I knew were in town and they wanted to come.

So I planed to pick them up at Vanier Park around 6:30 pm and then head over to Ambleside Park.

The concert started at 7 pm so Sean and I launched from MacDonald Beach around 4 pm to get a head start on things.

It only takes about 20 min to cut across English Bay and head over to Ambleside Park so we went and checked out things before we met the girls.

We thought we were early but there was at least 50 boats - maybe a few more.

Really busy with boats - but since I had one of the smaller boats - I was able to deke through the big boys and anchor about.... 15-20 yards from the beach.

In about 12 ft of water.

We kicked back and relaxed for a couple of hours.

Guzzle guzzle times up - pre- game's over.

Sean and I had to go over to meet the girls.

Vanier Park is only about 10 minutes from Ambleside so iit wasn't to far to meet them.

Arriving to the dock I see two girls waiting - but who's the guy with them Sean asks me?

Guess what?

The girls brought some guy with them. What a joke!

Jump aboard - Mr. Third Wheel

So now there's 5 of us.

Now I'm heading back over to Ambleside - we arrive just before the concert and some other boat was anchored where I was earlier.

Oh well, so I deked around him too and anchored front row AGAIN.

I guess that's the one good thing about owning a little twenty footer.

Watch the video below to hear what we heard live on my boat.

That's my story - have you ever seen concert on your boat?

If so, let us know WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN....

Tell your story. We'd love to hear about it.

What concert did you go to on your boat?

Neil young was wicked and so were the other two performances.

But I was there for Neil - click here to see him play at Ambleside Park.

Or, just watch the same video that I've attached below.
